Step back in time at the Zuiderzee Museum!

Dive back in time for a while at the Zuiderzee Museum. In the Outdoor Museum, as many as 140 old houses tell the story of the past. From the eel smokehouse, the old candy shop and the butcher's shop to the cheese warehouse. This section is open from spring to autumn vacations. It is possible to put on your own clothes from the old days, sit in the school desks or eat an eel from the fish smokehouse. There are also a variety of Old Dutch games to play. The indoor museum is about 250 meters from the open-air museum, so save your tickets! In the Ship Hall, you can see the collection of historic boats or check out the exhibition about the former Zuiderzee.

War Museum Medemblik

At the Medemblik War Museum, you’ll learn about both the impact of the Second World War on the daily lives of civilians and the military developments of that period. You can explore the museum at your own pace or take part in an interactive Experience Tour based on the escape room concept.

There are two different exhibitions to choose from. In Exhibition 1: ‘Choices in Almersdorp’, you experience daily life in a village in the 1940s. In Exhibition 2: ‘Road to Freedom’, you step into the shoes of a soldier and experience the journey towards liberation. During these experiences, you work together on tasks and puzzles, immersing you in history in an exciting and active way. This brings the past truly to life and allows you to experience the stories of that time up close.

Sandy beach

On summer days it is lovely to relax on the beautiful and clean sandy beach on the other side of the dike. From your towel you have a view over the IJsselmeer, while the children build a sandcastle or take a dive. In the summer months you can rent beach beds and windbreakers.
